I sort of agree with you. I just think that there should be more than 50 people allowed in the ignore list. Because you can always ignore people....also if you ignore someones account (if you ignore the toon and it also puts the account on ignore) that would solve a lot.

Why Turbine Needs To Take Action Against In-Game Trolling

I believe Turbine needs to take action against in-game trolling. However, what we need is not a crackdown on trolling, but rather a change in the system that seems to attract and accomodate trolls. In order to understand this, you need to understand some "troll psychology."

Trolls are oftentimes people who used to enjoy online gaming very much. These games make them feel at home and in control. However, they lost something in the way of enthusiasm and enjoyment derived from playing the games, thus they are only staying to do the thing they enjoy the most: troll.

What is even worse, trolls don't troll in games they used to play, they troll in games that are "best for trolling." Therefore we have a ton of people doing this who have never actually played LotRO and have no intention to do so, they only came here because this is the best game to troll in. In fact, we have much more trolls in LotRO than what other, far more popular games have.

What makes LotRO the best game to troll in? (Understand: not the absolute best, but a very convenient choice.)

Imo, 3 things:

World chat: the existence of a readily available game-wide chat channel that everyone can always see unless they know how to turn it off.

World chat is "forced": You can turn off World chat, but it's not advisable for people who wish to know the news, what the general conversation is about, see the offers that are usually better than AH, or to take part in PUG runs as no one really uses GLFF any more.

Turbine are very slow to ban or mute trolls. Bans last for very short periods of time and it is easy to come back on another account and continue trolling.

Proposed solutions:

Do away with World chat.

Make Trade chat world-wide and only usable by people above lvl50.

Make Advice chat world-wide and only usable by people above lvl50.

Implement 5 world-wide chat channels based on level ranges: 1-19, 20-49, 50-74, 75-99, 100-105. You can post in any channel that you meet the minimum level requirement for. You can turn on or off the visibility of each channel.

Why Turbine Needs To Take Action Against In-Game Trolling

Historical perspective: The people who post nasty comments online are likely to have pathological personalities, said a 2014 study from the University of Manitoba. Known as “Internet trolls,” Web users who like to post inflammatory comments, incite arguments, and send insulting tweets are more likely to exhibit Machiavellianism, narcissism, psychopathy, and sadism. Collectively known as the “Dark Tetrad,” these personality traits were shown to be prevalent through surveys designed to understand what makes trolls tick. Participants were asked about their Internet behavior, including how frequently they posted comments and whether they preferred chatting, making friends, or trolling. Of the 418 people surveyed, 59 percent reported actively commenting, and among those just 5.6 percent admitted to trolling. The trolls gave responses that were strongly associated with the traits in the Dark Tetrad, especially sadism and psychopathy; they were more likely, for example, to agree with the statement “The more beautiful and pure a thing is, the more satisfying it is to corrupt.” Study author Erin Buckels told Slate.com that the Internet’s anonymity has freed pathological people to act out. “The allure of trolling may be too strong for sadists,” she says, “as they presumably have limited opportunities to express their sadistic interests in a socially desirable manner.” - See more at:
